I managed to get back into proper Windows by editing the boot tab in msconfig. It did gave a message that some components might not be gone until a second reboot, but that didn't look like an error.Īfter that I got stuck booting into safe mode endlessly. Everything was huge, and it said "safe mode" on the screen.) It seemed to complete without errors, and prompted me to reboot. I did some searching and found & downloaded the Avast uninstall utility here: I ran it and followed the prompts to boot into safe mode. Recently I updated to Windows 10, and today I got a popup message from the Avast upgrade utility, which was a surprise since I thought it was uninstalled. A few months ago, I uninstalled it via the Windows 7 control panel. I'm having a problem removing Avast completely.
